Now that Holiday shopping has kicked into gear, malls everywhere are being flooded with ravenous consumers. Having worked in the retail industry for five years (one of which as a manager), I can tell you that sometimes people can behave like animals. I’d say it was like they were raised in a barn but that would be an insult to people who grew up rural. From name-calling to mindless screaming, I’ve seen quite a bit of action in the retail trenches. I’d come home most nights irritable and drained. I’ve heard that a glass of wine every day can be beneficial to one’s health but probably not under these circumstances. The worst part is that so much of the stupid bullshit I face at the store could have been avoided if people were a little more polite, courteous, and/or understanding.
I’ve outlined my feelings in this video, and it doesn’t even cover everything. I could create a more extensive list but that would take the rest of my life.
Just a somewhat friendly reminder that retail workers are people too, with feelings, and a home they might like to visit in between ridiculously-houred shifts. Please be kind!
