MAC X Star Trek Collection

This year marked the release of the newest Star Trek film as well as the franchise’s 50th anniversary. What a perfect time to release a Star Trek-themed makeup collection! While I don’t have the funds to buy the collection nor the influence to get free samples, I can still talk at length about it!

MAC’s hella sparkly collection consists of a lot of vibrant golds, pinks, purples, blues, and greens. You can create some really cool spacey-wacey looks, as they’ve demonstrated on their website, or you can use the colour scheme in your everyday looks. The collection is quite vast, so I’ll only be focusing on some select items but you can check out the full collection on the MAC website.

Trip The Light Fantastic Powders, $39.50 CAD

From left to right: Luna Luster, Strange New Worlds, Highly Illogical

These beautiful pearly powders have a wide range of uses for a number of different skin tones. They could be used as a sparkly powder, highlighter, or bronzer. I would personally use Highly Illogical to highlight tf out of my cheekbones. Here is a swatch on light skin from Revelist, and here is a swatch on dark skin from Fancieland.

Pressed Pigment Eye Shadow, $27.50 CAD

From left to right: To Boldly Go, Midnight, Bird of Prey, The Naked Time

I think a lot of the promo photos of this collection is a little over-saturated. This photo from Ommorphia Beauty Bar seems to be one of the more accurate photos of all four colours. These pigments are really beautiful and work really well with one another. I think these colours would work really well on dark skin as well as light, especially when applied wet.

Lipstick, $22.50 CAD

From left to right: The Enemy Within, LLAP, Klingiton, Where No Man Has Gone Before

I’m kind of in love with The Enemy Within. Fancieland’s swatch shows how beautifully vibrant it is on her skin and I just want to be a golden goddess. (She also swatched the lip glosses which I won’t be talking about here because I’m not really a gloss girl.) All four shades seem extremely flattering with glints of sparkle. LLAP is also a beautiful champagne-coloured shimmer that would complement most skin tones.

Nail Lacquer, $16.50 CAD

From left to right: Skin of Evil, Holladeck, Enterprise

My experience with MAC nail lacquers has been very positive. Quick drying, very opaque (often only  needing one coat), and long-lasting. I would love to add a few more MAC colours to my nail collection. Holladeck and Enterprise seem to be very shimmery opaque metallics, whereas Skin of Evil is an olive-coloured chunky glitter that can be worn alone or over top another colour. (Skin of Evil on top of Holladeck would give some serious Loki vibes but woops, wrong fandom!)

Will you be picking up anything from this collection? What’s your favourite?

Everyday Cosplay — Star Butterfly (Star vs. The Forces of Evil)

I just love magical girls, okay? Star is so much fun to watch, I kinda wish I had her when I was a pre-teen. I really wanted to recreate her fun outfit. Typically when I ignore price points I omit the item listing, but a few of these are actually affordable! So I kept the listing, just ignore the fact that the totally plastic(-looking) shoulder bag is over $1000.

I also wanted to pay homage to some other animated magic ladies with the Sailor Moon compact, and Princess Bubblegum Doc Martens. (LSP also has a pair of Doc Martens! They may have gone better here because they have a big yellow star on them. Plus, Star is also a space princess.)

Everyday Cosplay — Sardonyx (Steven Universe)

Easily my favourite gem fusion. I just love the tuxedo-inspired aspects that feel very *show woman* with an off-beat flare. I made her gloves lace and full-fingered. The dress has the tuxedo-inspired lapels and the bow tie translated into this really cute bow choker, paired with the long star necklace. I actually love this look! I would wear it to a fancy party. The kind that have butlered hors d’oeuvres.

Enamel Pin OBSESSED!

If you haven’t seen these little dudes bouncing around Etsy, Instagram, or retail stores, you will soon. I recently became obsessed with these little accessories. They’re like the ~fancy~ grown up versions of buttons. They’re more durable and won’t fall off your backpack, but that also means they’re a tad more expensive. That’s why I have such a big problem. I can’t afford all the pins I love like I could with buttons!

I’ve even considered designing my own. You just create the design and a company can make the pin for you. The catch, once again, is the dolla dolla billz. So since I can’t do anything to satisfy my love for these pins, I’ll share some of my favourites here.

If you are unfamiliar with the axolotl, make yourself familiar. This deep-sea creature is actually that adorable and I just want to see it happy. It recently became popular online but actually learned about it years and years ago by watching Planet Earth like a nerd. What a hipster.

its actually so cute

I grew up in the desert and I have an fondness for cacti and succulents. This pin is a little bit of California/Nevada love. I have a little cactus friend but it’s kind of wonky-looking now.

But at the same time I’m also very proud of being from Toronto and the best way to show that is obviously a trash panda. Our back yard has been ravaged by them. They’re so cute but gtfo!

I want this pin because it conveys that 1. I like Jurassic Park, and 2. I, too, am a clever girl.

When I was around middle school age, I got really into anime and started drawing obsessively. While I try to move away from anime stylistically, Cardcaptor Sakura has a special place in my heart. I think all her cool battle outfits is what did it for me. She’s my favourite magical girl. ❤

I don’t think the design is associated with Bee and Puppycat but this is definitely the bee off of Bee’s sweater.

Plus 25% of the proceeds of that pin sale goes to The Pollinator Partnership! Saving the bees is cool.

I think Lion is one of my favourite characters on Steven Universe. Fluffy pink friend. Mr. Universe is also fluffy and pink.

What kind of pins would you cover your stuff in?

Everyday Cosplay — Nancy Wheeler

My obsession with Stranger Things is completely healthy, I assure you. Nancy quickly became my favourite female character on the show (sorry, Barb!). She’s a young woman who takes charge, whether it’s acing all her classes, hunting a monster, or owning her sexuality. I love how independent she is especially since she’s sweet as sugar.

One of my favourite Nancy outfits is from Chapter 5, when she goes searching for the creature with Jonathan. It’s layered up fall coziness: practical, warm, easy to move in, fully prepared to kick butt! Also cute as hell.

Everyday Cosplay — No Spoilers! (Star Wars)

On this the release date of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I find myself without a ticket. I’ll be seeing the film tomorrow evening and until then I am restricting my use of social sites. Many people are sharing their FAN-tastic premiere outfits, so I thought I’d create an outfit for staying home and avoiding spoilers. Put on some tunes, sip some tea, maybe take a nap.
